Working environments have long used a thumbs up hand signal as a method of communicating between ground-workers and machinery operators- but what does it mean?<\/p>\n

Put simply, if a worker wants to approach the zone where a machine is operating, they raise their thumb at the operator, and wait for the operator to bring the machine to a stop and return the signal. The concept is straightforward and effective- but it\u2019s not without fault.<\/p>\n

It builds on the traditional thumbs up with a clearly visible digital sign, which signals for both clear approach (green thumbs up) and do not approach (red cross). Thanks to a trigger attached to either handbrake or deadman, this system cannot be activated when the vehicle is in operation, which acts to prevent accidental miscommunication or accidental operation of the machine which could occur when using a traditional hand sign.<\/p>\n

How the ZONE AI Digital Thumbs Up Works

If a worker wants to approach a vehicle, they must wait for the green thumbs up to display. The operator signals via a simple in-cab switch, which is integrated with the vehicle’s handbrake or deadman, preventing accidental use. Once activated, the warning alarms will mute, but in-cab displays will remain active, and the worker may safely approach the machine.<\/p>\n
